Moto Bellissima: Italian Motorcycles from the 1950s and 1960s San Francisco Airport SFMOMA (Industrial/ Graphic Design)

On display in San Francisco Airpot SFMOMA was Moto Bellissima: Italian Motorcycles from the 1950s and 1960s. I did not realize that the airport had a musesum display and I was just amazed how well it was done. I am really into motorcycles and it blew me away just to see these Vintage Italian Motorcycles. I liked the Benelli and MV bikes and I wish I could have taken them out for a ride. The design for the display was good and easy to see because of the amount of space within the airport. I highly recommend when you visit the Airport to check out this display.

DC Comics New Logo (Graphic Design)

DC Comics unveiled their new logo design on their website yesterday January 19,2012 and it will be used on all of their material starting March 2012. At first I was not to impressed with the design of the logo until I realized why they had design it that way. The logo has the D and C combined together because like their characters in their comic books they live two lives as one. The D was peeled away to reveal the C just as a hero changes into his superhero outfit. Also, the peeling effect is similar to a page being turned in a comic book and a cape flapping in the wind. GEV Magazine (New Work Review)

Last month, I complete the first issue of GEV Magazine. I had fun designing the Magazine layout for the whole magazine which was very challenging and I learned a lot. The magazine is a food and fashion magazine that I had to bring together for the reader to understand and admire. Check out the magazine website and purchase it at www.gastronomiqueenvogue.com/buy-the-magazine/

Spiki Lee x Maihiro x Kusopop T-Shirt (Graphic Design)

I picked up Spiki Lee x Maihiro x Kusopop T-Shirt at the Kusopop store in Valley Fair Mall, San Jose. I immediatly was amazed by the cartoon design of Spiki Lee (Bruce Lee to me) character. I loved the black color of the shirt, because it really made the yellow of the Spiki Lee character stand out. The design is quite simple, yet highly action orientated to give the feel of the characters speed and power. Also, I like the stuble details located on the arm back and lower back of the T-Shirt. I ended up giving this Spiki Lee T-Shirt to my brother who is a huge Bruce Lee fan and he loved it.

BAPE A Bathing Ape Bag from Samurai Magazine (Graphic Design)

I picked up the Samurai magazine yesterday at Kinokuniya in San Jose, because I am researching magazine layouts for GEV magazine. Included with the magazine was a free gift bag from A Bathing Ape clothing. I really liked the design of the logo of BAPE and think I might pick up more from this designer. Also, I think the bag is great for being give out for free. I thought it would have been made cheap but it is actually well made. I recommend picking up the Samurai magazine to get this bag.

Wisconsin Badgers 2012 Rose Bowl Uniforms Adidas (Graphic Design)

I thought I should review the Adidas Wisconsin Badgers 2012 Rose Bowl Uniforms, because I recently reviewed the Nike Oregon Duck Uniform. I found that the Badgers uniforms were decent and I kind of liked the incorporation of the Rose in the red part of the uniform. I would have preferred if they added to the uniform aspect of the Badger mascot that Wisconsin uses. I believe more could have been done to the uniform and think it should not have really been the final look for the team. Even after seeing the game live I still fell that it was a little underwhelming idea. That is just my opinion.

Santana Row Garage Art/Design (Graphic Design)

Yesterday I went to Santana Row in San Jose, California and noticed these amazing designs on the garages of building. I especially like the design for the dog/wolf and the bear reminded me of my Sebastian Catering logo that I created. I am trying to find the artist/designer responsible for the design. I will be doing more research to see if I can find the artist name and I will check out more of the design work on the other garages in Santana Row. You can be surprised what type of great design you could be missing out on, because I have been to Santana Row many times and just never really noticed them.

The Oregon Ducks 2012 Nike Pro Combat System of Dress (Graphic Design)

I recently came upon The Oregon Ducks 2012 Nike Pro Combat System of Dress when I was DESIGN SCOUTING online. The new design for the uniform is amazing because it reminds me of a Star Wars Trooper. The helmet has been redesigned to fit perfectly against the pads of the player and “The helmet has a liquid black metal finish, never before seen on the field” (Nike Facebook page). I loved the color used for the entire uniform it gives a space aged and sleek look to the player. Because of Oregon’s mascot the Ducks, Nike added wings to the design and on the helmet to emulate speed of wings flapping. I am specifically watching the January 2, 2012 Rose Bowl because I believe that they will be wearing these uniforms.

The facebook page on the uniform can be found here at www.facebook.com/usnikefootball.

UPDATE: I watched the Rose Bowl and it was an amazing game with lots of touchdowns and excitement. I thought that the designs of the uniforms were still pretty good, however in the photos from nike it was not apparent that the helmets are metallic and not black. I guess during the game the sun shined on them and annoyed some of the audience in the stand as well as the announcers. I still like the added wing detail especially on the helmet. I also saw the Wisconsin Uniforms made by Adidas and will be reviewing them soon.

William-Sonoma Culinary Freestyle Demonstration Display Flyer (New Work)

I was asked on this project to photograph and design a display flyer based on the William-Sonoma Demonstration that the Chef Daniel Donguines cooked at. I wanted the design of the flyer to show the food that the Chef was making at this demonstration. I took the picture behind him to give him a sense of control and confidence about the food he was preparing.

CAP DUCK x KUSOPOP Keychain – Shin Side – (Graphic Design)

I recently picked up CAP DUCK x KUSOPOP keychain at the mall from the KusoPop stand. I love the design of the CAP DUCK it reminds me of Donald Duck and I believe the artist SHON SIDE intended it to be him. My favorite Disney character is Donald Duck and I just had to pick up this keychain. Even though it is not the same as the Disney character the attitude of character and color is the same as him. I noticed other characters from this KusoPop Collection and I will reviewing more in another blog post.

Check out some of these designs at www.kusopop.com

New People World (Graphic Design)

I went to New People World which is located in Japantown San Francisco California. I picked up their business card/flyer which has artwork displayed on the front and the general information on the back. What I like about the design is the use of simple and unique hand-drawn faces to emphasis the name of the place New People. I like japanese graphic design and these pieces give me a great sense of that style of design. I recommend people go and visit this location if they get the chance to because like their website says it has fashion, films, art and design goods.

Visit their website at www.newpeopleworld.com.

Helveticards – Ryan Myers – (Graphic Design)

I was DESIGN SCOUTING online when I came across these Helveticards by Ryan Myers. I realize Helvetica is a well know and somewhat over used font by designer, but I was intrigued by the use for playing cards. So, I decided to order these cards and check them out for myself. They arrived in a simple case but the quality and design of the cards were quite amazing. The design of the cards are so simple yet they are great take on playing cards. I am glad I picked them up and I definitely will use them to shock some people. I think they are great for any graphic designer looking for interesting graphic design adaptations.

I bought them at http://helveticards.ryanmyers.me/ and I believe he is releasing a limit edition uncut signed cards. I might pick this up as a poster for display.
